Cooking Tomahawk Steak On Pellet Grill
Obviously cuts of meat and bone or bone out will defer but this is the overall process as a guide.
Cooking tomahawk steak on pellet grill. Cover entire steak including the bone. Pull the steak from the grill and turn it on high 450 degrees fahrenheit once the grill comes up to temperature place the steak back onto the center of the rack. Season steaks generously with salt and pepper as desired. You then slam the steaks on and it shouldn t take more than 1 3 minutes until those final internal temperatures are reached.
After the tomahawk steak has seared for 5 minutes on each side 10 minutes total move the steak to a raised rack on the cooler side of the grill. Sear the steak over the hot side of the grill for 5 minutes on each side. Heat an outdoor grill to highest heat. In theory this should take about 45 to 55 minutes but every grill is different.
Ingredients 2 large tomahawk steaks 2 tablespoon kosher salt 2 tablespoon ground black pepper 1 tablespoon paprika 1 2 tablespoon garlic powder 1 2 tablespoon onion powder 1 2 tablespoon brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground mustard 1 4 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Halfway through each side so after 2 5 minutes rotate the steak 45 90 degrees to form grill marks on the tomahawk. Sprinkle coarse kosher salt onto the top side of the tomahawk steaks. Set the steaks on a cooling rack over a large pan in the fridge for 2 hours to let the salt melt and soak in. Flip the steaks over and repeat the salt and fridge time for 2 hours on the reverse side.
Re wrap with butcher paper and allow to rest in refrigerator for up to 48 hours fire up pellet grill to 400 degrees farenheit. Close the lid and leave the steak on the grill undisturbed until it reaches an internal temperature of about 115 120 degrees f. Once the steak reaches an internal temperature of 120 ºf remove it from the grill place it on a baking sheet tent with aluminum foil and set aside. Get the top bottom and all the sides.
Oil and butter if you want the steak and get it on that hot pan griddle or grate. Two days before grilling rub tomahawk steak with garlic infused olive oil. If using a wifire enabled grill turn on super smoke mode. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Sear the steak for 3 to 4 minutes on each side letting the flames lick up the sides. When ready to cook set your traeger to 225. Flip every 2 minutes rotating your steak 90 degrees the second time around if you desire to have the ideal grilling marks.
